The State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources (DFFP), US Wildland Fire Service, Alaska (AFS), and the US Forest Service (USFS) have responsibility for providing and coordinating wildland fire suppression services. Geographic units where the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources is is protecting agency are called "Areas" (the exceptions is Haines Area), the AFS units are "Zones", and the USFS units are "Forests".</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV>
This feature class represents the wildland fire protection areas within Alaska. These data are provided by U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Wildland Fire Service, Alaska (AFS), on behalf of the Alaska Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (AWFCG).

Edited polygons to reflect changes in the AFS Military Zone. The JBER (Anchorage area) from AFS Military Zone and added to DNR Anchorage/Mat-Su area.

Edited the boundary between Tanana Zone and Upper Yukon Zone. The Dalton Highway was used to split the Zones.
