The Buildup Index (BUI) is used to summarize fuel dryness below the surface preceding the rain event. The amount of rain over 72 hours categorizes the weather event. Estimated number of days needed for fuels to dry to burnable conditions based on an afternoon temperature of 70F and 30% RH.

Individual rasters representing Build Up Index (BUI) estimates 72 hours ago (day before yesterday) and the precipitation for the last 72 hours are downloaded from AKFF MesoWest. Rasters are processed using Python 3 to create a polygon feature class with values that represent the estimated drying days.
