Description: Alaska Current Year Fire Points represent the spatial locations of the fire occurrences. Fire occurrences represent the ignition points (preferred), the polygon centroids, or more generalized locations (least desirable) when the ignition points are not known or not available. This dataset includes occurrences that are ignited naturally (e.g., lightning) or by humans (including prescribed fires). Fires determined to be false alarms are excluded.

Description: Wildland fire history data is made up of wildland fire locations (fire occurrence points) and wildland fire perimeter polygons. Alaska Fire History Points is a time series of reported wildland fires in each calendar year across Alaska. This dataset represents location points of wildfires that are ignited naturally (e.g., lightning) or by humans (including prescribed fires). The dataset includes some, but not all, historical (fires declared ‘out’ in calendar years prior to the current year) wildland fires and is subject to revision. There is no lower size limit for fires to be included and as such, reported 'false alarms' are included. The accuracy of the point locations range in quality because of inconsistencies in the number of significant digits recorded for both latitude and longitude coordinates. Users should be aware that there are many of the fires between 1961 and 1968 are missing fire reports. Data are available as ArcGIS Server Map and Feature Services https://fire.ak.blm.gov/arcgis/rest/services/MapAndFeatureServices and for download from https://fire.ak.blm.gov/predsvcs/maps.php
