Predictive Services - Fire Weather - RAWS Defined

RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Station) are solar/battery powered weather stations that are maintained through a co-operative agreement between U.S. Bureau of Land Management, State of Alaska, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, and U.S. Forest Service.

RAWS collect a variety of weather data (temperature, precipitation, wind speed, etc.) and transmit three hours worth of data every three hours. As a result, hourly records of weather data are accumulated. AICC maintains fifty-two weeks of data* online at this web site which is available for access through the AICC Weather Database.

* stations are solar powered, therefore transmission reliability can be limited during dark winter months
